Step 2: Active Supervision on Real Client Files

Investment: $110 per hour (you only pay when you need me)

Minimum commitment: 1 hour per BAS lodgement period (so minimum 4 hours per year per client for quarterly BAS)

How it works:

1. You do all the background work on your client's file (using the processes from the course)

2. We schedule a supervision session where we review the work together

3. I sign off on the hours you completed in the background, PLUS our supervision time

4. You charge your client for the supervision hour too (you're still working on their file!)

The brilliant part: If we don't use the full hour, I bank that time for your next session. No wasted money.

Flexibility: Book supervision sessions when YOU need them through your members' area. No forced monthly retainers.

Step 3: BAS Lodgement Under My Registration

Cost: $198 per BAS lodgement (passed directly to your client)

Until you're registered as a BAS Agent, you can't lodge BAS returns yourself. So I lodge them as your supervisor using my BAS Agent registration. Your client pays this fee (not you), and it's a standard industry rate.

Once you're registered, you can lodge BAS returns yourself and keep that fee as part of your service pricing.

The 1,400 Hours Requirement

The Tax Practitioners Board requires 1,400 hours of relevant experience (or 1,000 hours if you're a member of a recognised association like ICB, ABA, or AAT).

What counts as relevant experience:

Preparing books and records for BAS purposes
Working on client files under supervision
Reviewing and preparing BAS returns
Managing payroll, GST, and PAYG matters

Important: You don't need 1,400 hours of supervision meetings. You need 1,400 hours of relevant WORK that's been supervised. That's why you do the work yourself, then we review it together.

Each supervision session covers the hours you spent working on that client's file, PLUS the supervision time itself. This is how you actually accumulate hours efficiently.

REALISTIC TIMELINE

Most Supervisees Take 12 - 24 Months to Register:

Full-time bookkeeping: 12 - 18 months (1,400 hours ≈ 8-9 months of full-time work, but spread over calendar year)
Part-time bookkeeping: 18 - 24 months
Casual/few clients: 24+ months (which is fine, the goal is competence, not speed)

The Real-World Bookkeeping course needs to be completed within this timeframe too. Most people finish the course in 6 - 12 months while working through their supervised hours.

REAL WORLD BOOKKEEPING

$1997 Upfront or $170/month payment plan over 12 months (Total = $2040 total)

ACTIVE SUPERVISION

$110 per hour as needed, with a minimum of 1 hour per BAS lodgement period.

BAS LODGEMENT FEE

$198 per BAS lodgement for me to lodge, (this is passed to YOUR client, not paid by you).

ROI Reality: Once registered, BAS Agents typically earn $60-$150+ per hour. Your investment will pay for itself with your guaranteed increased income.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU APPLY FOR THE PROGRAM:

This is a professional program and a 12 - 24 month working relationship, so I want to make sure we're the right fit for each other. Here's the process:

1. You complete the application form. This tells me about your current situation, Cert IV status, client access, and timeline.

2. I review your application. This is usually done within 2-3 business days.

3. If approved, you receive enrolment details. This will include a link to enrol in the Real-World Bookkeeping course for $1000 less.

4. You choose your payment option. Pay in full upfront, or a you can choose to do a 12-month payment plan.

5. You get immediate access. To the course platform, Facebook group and the booking system for 1:1 supervision sessions.

6. You book your first supervision session. When you have client work ready to review or a rescue job you wish you hadn't taken on. Don't worry, I've got you (and coffee)!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to have clients before I start?

You need access to clients or employment where you can do BAS work. This isn't a work experience program - supervision means I'm supervising work you're actually doing. The Real-World Bookkeeping course includes marketing education to help you find clients, but you can also work as an employee under supervision.

What if I can only afford the monthly payment plan?

That's exactly why I offer it. It makes the cost manageable for most bookkeepers, especially since you're earning from your clients while you learn. The payment plan works perfectly fine—you just pay a few dollars more overall, not much.

How many supervision sessions am I likely to need?

For someone who is brand new to bookkeeping, I find they need a few sessions closer together initially especially if they get a complicated rescue job (had one person need weekly for a little bit), but once people get to around 500 hours experience, they don't really need me except for once a BAS quarter. With my current program setup (course + live sessions + FB group), the extra supervision sessions just aren't needed for most people.

On average, for fairly new bookkeepers, 6 - 8 supervision sessions over the course of the program is typical.

For bookkeepers who already have experience, most only need the once per BAS quarter.

What happens to unused time in a supervision session?

If we finish in 45 minutes instead of 60, that 15 minutes banks in your account for next time. No wasted money. When your banked time adds up to an hour, your next session is free. Simple.

Do you help with the TPB registration application?

Yes. When you've completed your hours and the course, I help you prepare your application to the Tax Practitioners Board, including signing all required documentation as your supervisor.

Is there a limit on how many supervisees you take?

Yes. I currently have 15 supervisees with a cap of 25 to make sure everyone gets quality supervision. If applications are closed, you'll be added to a waitlist.

Do you offer supervision for Tax Agents too?

No, just BAS Agent supervision. Tax Agent requirements are different and I'm not qualified to supervise tax agents.

What if I don't pass my Cert IV or board-approved course?

You need these qualifications to register as a BAS Agent. If you're struggling with your Cert IV, we can talk about it during supervision sessions. I'm happy to help you understand concepts. But formal qualification completion is between you and your RTO.

Can I do this part-time?

Absolutely. It just takes longer to accumulate your 1,400 hours. Part-time supervisees typically take 18 - 24 months to register. The course and supervision flexibility are designed for part-time work.

Can I cancel the course payments if I decide I don't want it later?

The Real-World Bookkeeping course isn't a subscription—it's the necessary educational content you're either paying off monthly or purchasing upfront. Once enrolled, you have access for life, but the payment commitment remains. This is separate from the hourly supervision arrangement.

What if I need more than 1 hour per BAS period?

Book as many supervision sessions as you need through your members' area. The 1 hour per BAS period is the minimum to make sure you really know your BAS stuff. Some supervisees book 2 - 3 hours per client when they're starting out, others stick to the minimum. It's flexible based on what YOU need.

How do I know if I'm accumulating hours correctly?

I provide regular reports showing how many hours you've completed and sign off on your Statement of Relevant Experience forms as you go. You'll always know exactly where you stand toward that 1,400-hour requirement.

What if I'm already partway through accumulating hours elsewhere?

That's fine. Your previous supervised hours count toward your 1,400 total. We just continue from where you are now. You'll still need to complete the Real-World Bookkeeping course as part of my supervision program.

Can I switch from monthly to upfront payment later?

Yes. If you're on the monthly plan and want to pay off the remaining balance to save money, just let me know and I'll send you the payoff amount.

What software do I need to know?

The Real-World Bookkeeping course covers Xero, MYOB, and QuickBooks Online. You don't need to know all three; most bookkeepers specialise in one or two. The BAS principles are the same across all platforms.

Is the Facebook group private and confidential?

Yes, it's a closed private group. What's discussed there stays there. We all support each other's learning without judgment.
