AML Readiness

SOUND FAMILIAR?

You Know You Need to Get This Done. But You've Opened the Templates and Thought… Now What?

The AUSTRAC starter kit is genuinely useful. But it was designed for compliance professionals — not for bookkeepers running a practice, managing clients, and trying to get BAS out the door.

If you've tried to work through it alone, you've probably hit one of these:

  • You open the Risk Assessment template and realise you don't know how to rate your own risk level — or what counts as "high" vs "medium" for a practice like yours.

  • The Policy Document asks you to make decisions about enhanced CDD, PEP escalation, and third-party reliance — and you're not sure what the right answer is for a small bookkeeping practice.

  • You get partway through, something interrupts you, and you never quite go back.

  • You're not confident it's actually right — you've filled something in but you're not sure if you've done it properly.

  • You know the deadline is coming and the whole thing feels like a compliance mountain you don't have time to climb.

None of that means you can't do this. It means you need someone to do it WITH you — not hand you a template and wave goodbye.

IMPORTANT:

AUSTRAC gives you the basic instructions. Kelly fills in the GAPS!

SAVE TIME. SAVE SANITY. GET IT COMPLETELY DONE & DONE RIGHT.

AML Live Implementation

Here's the Thing About Doing It Alone...

The AUSTRAC templates tell you WHAT to fill in. They don't tell you:

  • Whether your specific services are regulated (and what to do if it's borderline)
  • What risk rating actually makes sense for the clients YOU have
  • How to fill in the governance section if you're a sole trader wearing all three hats
  • What your CDD process should look like for your practice size
  • What decisions need to be made BEFORE you can complete each section

Kelly has worked through every document in the AUSTRAC starter kit for bookkeeping practices. She knows where people get stuck, what decisions trip them up, and how to get a small practice to a completed, compliant program without overcomplicating it.

This workshop exists because reading a template alone and actually implementing it are completely different things.

New Client CDD / KYC Form

Individual, company, and trust versions.

Client Risk Rating Record

Document your risk rating decision with rationale for every client

Sanctions & PEP Check Record

AUSTRAC Enrolment Walkthrough

Step-by-step guide through the actual AUSTRAC Online enrolment process

SUSPICIOUS MATTER PACK

Three documents covering the full suspicious matter process from staff spotting something to lodging with AUSTRAC — because this is the part most bookkeepers have never had to deal with before, and getting it wrong isn't an option:

Unusual Activity Report Form

The internal form staff complete and submit to the Compliance Officer when something doesn't feel right. Captures exactly what AUSTRAC requires: what was observed, when, who, amounts, client details, and the factual record your CO needs to make their decision.

No Reasonable Grounds Decision Record

When the CO reviews an escalation and determines there are no reasonable grounds for suspicion, this record protects your practice. Documents the decision and rationale — essential if the same client comes up again later.

SMR Drafting Template

Writing a Suspicious Matter Report to AUSTRAC is something most bookkeepers will never have done. This template walks you through AUSTRAC's own who/what/where/when/why/how framework so your grounds for suspicion are clear, complete, and actually useful to investigators.

WHO THIS WORKSHOP IS FOR

This is perfect for you if...

You've confirmed (or strongly suspect) that your services are regulated under AML/CTF.
You've looked at the AUSTRAC templates and felt overwhelmed by the decisions involved.
You want your program done properly — not guessed at alone at 10pm.
You're a sole trader or small practice and want someone to show you what compliance actually looks like at your scale.
You want to hit the 1 July and 29 July deadlines without the panic.
You attended the AML Readiness Lunch & Learn and you're ready to take the next step.

This workshop is NOT for you if...

You haven't yet worked out whether you're regulated — start with the Lunch & Learn first.
You're looking for legal or compliance advice (this is educational and implementation support, not legal advice).
You already have your AML/CTF program completed and signed off.

Start Your Bookkeeping Practice

Do I need to attend the Lunch & Learn first?

What's the difference between this and just using the free AUSTRAC templates?

Is this legal or compliance advice?

I'm a sole trader — is this still relevant for me?

What if my situation is a bit unusual or complicated?

What if I can't attend live?

Will this be run again after May?

What do I need to bring on the day?

Kelly Berger

BOOKKEEPING PRACTICE EXPERT

KELLY BERGER

Kelly Berger has been in the bookkeeping industry for over two decades — she's built a practice, sold it, and now runs Bookkeepers Support, helping bookkeepers navigate the real-world complexities of running a compliant, professional practice.

When the AML/CTF reforms landed, Kelly did what she always does — she went straight to the source. She worked through every AUSTRAC document, every template, and every guidance note for accounting and bookkeeping practices, and then built a toolkit that makes implementation actually achievable for small practices.

This workshop is the result of that work. Not theory. Not a summary of what AUSTRAC says. An actual implementation session, run with a bookkeeper who's done the work.
